NEW — Red Wing Home Repair Relief Program Helps Residents Stay Safe — with a Hand from the Community

PRESS RELEASE

April 11, 2025

Red Wing, MN — Aging roofs, unreliable heating, inaccessible entrances—these are the kinds of challenges that can threaten not only the safety of a home but the wellbeing of the people who live there. That’s why Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH), in partnership with the City of Red Wing and the Red Wing Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA), is proud to announce a new program aimed at keeping residents safe, secure, and housed with dignity: the Red Wing Owner-Occupied Home Repair Relief program.

This locally funded initiative provides up to $20,000 per household to help income-qualified Red Wing homeowners with critical repairs and accessibility upgrades, including work on roofing, plumbing, electrical, heating, entryways, and structural safety.

“We know that many homeowners in our community are doing everything they can to stay in their homes, but the cost of repairs can be overwhelming,” said Kurt Keena, Executive Director of the Red Wing HRA. “By teaming up with the City of Red Wing and Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity, we’re building a safety net for those who need it most—and preserving affordable homeownership in our neighborhoods.”

But this program is about more than just tools and funding—it’s about neighbors helping neighbors.

“This is what Habitat is all about,” said Bob Hawley, Executive Director of GCHFH. “We’re not just making repairs— we’re helping people stay in the homes they love, in the community they’ve built their lives around. And we can’t do that without local financial support and volunteers who want to be part of something meaningful.”

How to Apply

Red Wing homeowners interested in applying for assistance can do so online at gchabitat.org/homeowner-help, in person at 614 Plum Street, or by phone at 651-327-2195. Email inquiries can be directed to info@gchabitat.org. You must occupy your home, be current on your property taxes, and have proof of property insurance.

How You Can Help

GCHFH invites the public to be part of this impactful new program—whether through financial contributions, volunteering your time and skills, or helping spread the word. “Every volunteer hour and every dollar donated helps a neighbor and builds community,” Hawley added.
