Minnesota’s State Housing Tax Credit is one of the smartest, most impactful ways to support affordable housing, and get something significant in return.

When you contribute to Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity through this program, you receive an 85% Minnesota tax credit, and your dollars stay right here helping Goodhue County families build safe, stable homes.

That means a $1,000 contribution costs you just $150 after the credit! Your generosity goes further, changes lives locally and strengthens our community’s housing future.

Must Act Fast to Give Back & Get Back

Your contribution helps families achieve homeownership, supports local workforce development, and fuels construction in the neighborhoods we call home. And because the credit is so substantial, donors of all sizes can participate.

This program is first-come, first-served, and the statewide funding cap is typically reached in the first 2–4 weeks. Acting early is essential.

The application window is expected to open in mid-January 2026.

How It Works (4 Simple Steps)

1. Apply Early

Complete the State Housing Tax Credit application through Minnesota Housing or Habitat Minnesota. When the 2026 window opens, this step will go fast — statewide funds may run out within weeks.

2. Choose Goodhue County Habitat

Select Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity as your designated developer/administrator to ensure your investment stays in our community.

3. Make Your Contribution

After approval, you’ll receive instructions for submitting your donation (typically within 30 days).  You must be prepared to contribute to the fund when you apply and wait for the tax credit to be applied to the next tax season.

Minimum gift: $1,000. Maximum: $2 million per tax year.

4. Receive Your Tax Credit

You'll receive an official Tax Credit Certificate to claim on your Minnesota tax return.85% of your gift comes back to you as a direct state income tax credit.
